Drawing sounds from the breath of ghostly post-punk, young London trio Halo Halo chanced upon my radar recently thanks to a storming set supporting Electrelane at Scala.
Demonstrating a quiet, shy demeanour, Halo Halo slyly draw the listener into their nest with a solemn noise.
What does emanate is both haunting and beautiful and – thankfully – bereft of the inch perfect recording technique that permeate modern times’ suffocated recordings.
It is certainly an element that could well have destroyed what is a fascinating song, but as it is “Manananggal” is quite wonderful.
And that is rather marvellous.
“Manananggal” is out now.
